Issaka Lab
Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers but remains a top cause of death worldwide. In the United States, 1 in 3 adults have never been screened and these numbers are even higher in racial/ethnic minority and lower-income groups. Inadequate screening is due to a combination of factors at the government, healthcare system, clinician, and patient level. Altogether, this leads to more advanced stage cancer when the treatment options are less effective and preventable deaths from colorectal cancer.
The Issaka Lab exists to change this narrative. Through research, quality improvement, community engagement, and policy, our goal is to reduce racial and economic disparities and improve outcomes in colorectal cancer by identifying and implementing solutions that improve screening and follow-up care.
